In 1979, the psychedelic rock band Pink Floyd released an album called The Wall. It has been very popular over the years based on its unrealistic story of the far regions of a twisted mind. When writing this album, the band may have discovered a hidden aspect of the human mind.
We have all created the wall in our own minds. It is a wall that runs along our minds forever and it never ends. It keeps up safe yet it destroys us at the same time. We add more bricks to the wall when we face the troubles of life. We isolate ourselves in some way. It is in all of us.
The mind is like space. It is never-ending. A paradox: dark yet light. There are galaxies of thought in places spread throughout this infinite space. With each passing day this space is aged and filled with more wisdom. It faces change. We are slaves to its power.
When looking inside yourself you can see this. You can see that your mind can never be full and that when you learn something, it is never forgotten, just put up for later use. That is the truth of the mortal mind. It cannot even begin to be comprehended such as the afore mentioned simile comparing it to space. It is beautiful and terrible. It creates and destroys. It begins but never ends. The mind goes on forever twisting and molding our lives as it pleases.
When people listen to The Wall they may take it as music. Just something to listen to after a long day during a time of relaxation. But it is much more. When listened to in its entirety and with an open mind, it gives one an explanation of just how the mind works. It reveals to the listener their own inner wall that has been built absentmindedly. It shows that no matter who we are we have built our own wall and that unlike the wall in the story, it cannot be torn down. Once The Wall is listened to in the way that I have taken the time to describe, you will realize that there are no worms to order the wall to be taken down. The only thing to do once you have realized this truth is that the wall will forever be there and that it is only a part of you.
Maybe this idea of mine is so far fetched that you would not even believe the guts I must have to spit out such a thought, but you have to admit that it is another way of thinking. It is what the music of a few men has brought into my life. I love and hate the wall. But it shall be a citizen of my mind for the rest of time. I should hope that if you are to read this and think that I am crazy that you would at least take the time to consider this and possibly apply it to yourself. You can never run someone down for their ideas until you think about them yourself.
You could surprise yourself.
You may witness the never-ending construction of your own wall.
You yourself may long to live outside it.
