Poetry: Prisoner of the world

by Nicole Wilt

Reality

Field of Flowers

Fairies dance `round lilies of beauty

Sun settles down upon skin so gracefully

Warm, cozy feeling

Smell of fresh roses is all-encompassing

Descend into the aroma let it comfort

Relax, just breathe, close the heavy eyelids

Time to sleep, enter peace.

Settle, awake

Gun fire, children crying

Hunger in the pit of the stomach

People screaming in the dark

Confusion, chaos

Coldness, darkness all around

Fog, haze swallowing the human body and mind

Then...absolute darkness

All is quiet, cold, empty and damp

Shock of bright yellow all consuming light,

At that moment the soft, gentle voice of a man beckoning
