The trees are like the best fables

they wear coats of many colours

and guard the walkways with blustered arms.

They are sentinels, tall and elegant,

their leaves beacons against the early twilight.

They are giants with smiling faces.

It is at this time of year you stare

childlike at sheer beauty

and fall.
