Poetry: Autumn leaves

by Joseph Bailey

Created on: September 12, 2009   Last Updated: April 20, 2010

Autumn leaves float through the day,

across a sky streaked with gray.

Streets littered in orange and brown,

fallen leaves cover the ground.

The trees sway in the breeze,

shedding away there dying leaves.

The branches bare leaves no more,

instead there memorize consume the floor.

Children dive in these piles of leaves,

playing games that are make believe.

They play without a care in there minds,

in a state of peace most never find.

Warm wind blows around every bend,

carrying leaves to the earths end.

Empty branches make for a lonely tree,

but its natures way of starting free.

Autumn brings with it a new beginning,

a chance to grow with an unseen ending.

Barren trees once full in the past,

stand in huddled masses waiting for Autumn to pass.

Autumn paves the way for winter to take its place,

with a new set of hurdles nature will face.

Nature knows this process so well,

and every year she tells this same tale.

Speaking of Autumn the season has come,

and the leaves will start falling until there are none.
