Poetry: I loved you once

by J. Janie Lipsmeyer

Created on: September 12, 2009

I loved you once; tis true, with a love so young and pure.

Only goodness did I see in your eyes that lie and lure.

My young love's simple ways did indeed live

Willing to be loyal and forevermore exist.

A cute doll I was to your callous, distant heart.

You placed me on a shelf when another caught your sight.

Alone was I in tears and with a shattered heart.

Only the heavens heard me sigh.

Not a few sleepless nights this forlorn heart endured.

I loved you once with a love that could last forevermore

But you slipped away into the night and faded in the illuminating sky,

Searching for someone you could love more.

So you left me to pick up the pieces of a shattered heart that preferred to die.

In time you faded, though my longing for your heart

I could not bear until my tears ascended to the stars.

There they glow, a distant memory of a love once shared.

Indeed my pure heart loved you once with love that would not end.

Yet while you were gone, in need of time to choose whom to love,

My heart released its claim on that hurting love.

Reluctantly, I watched my love fade into the distant blue.

But whispered prayers remembered above, sent another love so pure and true.

My new love in white jeans and red shirt presented his heart, pure and true.

With a boyish smile and top-gun sun glasses removed, he beamed with love.

Not an instant needed to know I was the love for him, and he for me.

No time to ponder if more time needed to decide whom to love.

Two loves came together and saw the chance to take.

Found was the love to have and to hold, to grow old and cherish forevermore,

And a love you will never know for you had love but let if go in search for more.

No sacrifice of letting you go, though I loved you once.
