The Book of Mormon is "another Testament of Jesus Christ".
Several years ago, I was ticketed by a policeman for having only one headlight. I asked him why I was ticketed as I was doing fine. I could see the road and only had a short distance to go until I arrived home. He asked me, "What would happen if the other light went out"? Of course, the answer was that I would be left in the dark. Many who believe in Jesus Christ do well in the light of day. They know they have headlights when needed, but darkness is not upon them and they do not seem concerned that they can loose the light and stumble in darkness.
The Lord gave a parable of the 10 virgins. Half of them did not have enough to keep their lights light. They were not prepared when Jesus came.
It has always been the way of the Law of the Lord. We do not stand alone. When witnesses are called, two or more are needed.
The Bible is a compilation of records that has grown through the centuries. The Old and New Testaments are witnesses to God's love for us through his Son, Jesus Christ. They have come to us through the faithful Hebrew scribes who recorded the inspired writings of their times. The bible refers to writings it does not contain. Some of these have found their way to us through the ages.
One prophet, Ezekiel, wrote of two records, or sticks, that would become one. He spoke of the stick of Judah and the stick of Joseph. The bible gives us an account of the Old World history of God's dealings in Israel and is a record of the Jews.
When Jacob blessed his sons, he said: "Joseph is a fruitful bough whose branches run over the wall.
The Book of Mormon tells of a group of people, descendants of that Joseph who was sold into Egypt, who left Jerusalem during the time of the prophet, Jeremiah, and of their travels and arrival in the "Promised Land" bringing with them records and continuing to write the record or stick of Joseph.
Although the Book of Mormon came to us by supernatural means, they are the same methods as told throughout the Bible, the prayer of a righteous boy being answered , the visitation of angels, truth revealed through prophets, and faith required of the believer. The Book of Mormon is the other headlight. With both the bible and Book of Mormon illuminating our path, we can be assured that we do not navigate in darkness. The Book of Mormon gives support and strength to the bible. It continually testifies of Christ. It is an everlasting and eternal witness. One must read it to feel its inspiration, it is the Word of God.
