The concept of the Trinity is extremely difficult to grasp, especially since the Bible emphatically states that there is only one God. Nevertheless, there are a number of scriptures which plainly refer to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as God.

To say that God is three yet still only one is like saying red is blue yet it is still only red. Humanly speaking this is impossible. Be that as it may, throughout the scriptures there is a consistent reference to the distinct persons of the Godhead which cannot be denied.

Trying to explain the Trinity, or attempts to allegorize it, could actually be painting a false picture of the Trinity's true nature. God exists in eternity and no mortal can understand the things of the eternal world. The apostle Paul said that we can't even imagine it. (1Cor.2:9)

Suffice it to say that where God exists it is possible to be one yet three and still be only one- complete, perfect unity. Should we believe this concept? The apostles apparently believed it as it resonates throughout the entire New Testament.

The Father is most commonly believed to be God and therefore needs no verification, yet Jesus said, "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?" (John 14:9)

Of course there are dozens of passages which confirm the deity of Christ such as John 1:1-14, Col 1:15-17, John 12:45, Rom. 9:5, Col. 2:9, 1 Tim 3:16, Titus 2:13 and many more.

The deity of the Holy Spirit is another common theme echoed throughout the scriptures such as Acts 5:3, where Peter said to Ananias, "Why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost... thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God."

Matter of fact, according to Jesus, there is only one unforgivable sin which is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. "And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come." (Matt.12:32)

There are a number of scriptures confirming the deity of the Holy Spirit including Heb.10:29, Rom. 8:11, and 1John 3:24. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is always referred to in the masculine pronoun (Him) which affirms the fact that he is not just a force.

The Trinity is stated plainly by Jesus himself in the last verse of Matthew where he said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of THE Father, and of THE Son, and of THE Holy Ghost."

Does this mean there are three Gods? God forbid! (as Paul would say). Then how do we deal with the concept of the Trinity?

Bible scholars and theologians have been locked in debate over this subject for centuries. We worship an awesome God and without a doubt we will spend eternity learning about him. Currently, we pray to the Father in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, it isn't particularly important to fully understand the Trinity even if we could. We know there is only one God and according to the scriptures God is the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, yet he is still only one God. We also understand that humanly speaking, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible; and since it is woven throughout the word of God, it is the truth.
