Most people want to escape reality, but TV producers hang on to reality shows because they are easier to produce, cheaper in cost, and generate a lot of money.
Although some reality shows are ok, most of them are garbage. They portray the wrong message to a lot of young people who are just starting to find their way in this chaotic world. For example "Kate and Jon plus 8" what is that?
When this show started out, it was all about how these two parents are going to deal with so many babies all within the same age group. Then as the children became toddlers, it was all about order, and discipline in the house. You don't see enough hugs and kisses, parents praising, or playing enough with them. They are always stressed out, and are more concerned about what the kids did or didn't do right. The mother might as well be a school monitor, because she doesn't act like a loving mother. Now the truth is coming out, how the parents split up, each are looking after themselves. The kids on the other hand have to deal with the parent's mess of a life!
Don't we have enough stress in our life already? Do we really need to watch someone else's life being messed up?
How about the "American Idol" show? They have great talent going through that show, and also not so good talent. But degrading someone on TV for not having the talent they are looking for, is a crime! My heart breaks for those who have to endure such harsh criticism, and name calling. The message they are giving out to young people is; If you are in a position of power, it is ok to abuse it. Belittling others is the norm. Is that what we are raising our children to be like?
Believe it or not, a lot of people use TV as an escape from reality. A place where laughter still exists. People are desperate to find a show that will do that for them now. Good shows like Mash, Cheers, Friends, Frazer, Seinfeld, even Three's Company would still be watched every time a rerun would appear from time to time. But TV producers are so consumed with reality shows, because they live in a world of make belief, which are powered by the networks of greed.
Reality is what you make of it, but a lot of it depends on people that share this world with you. When you have to get up every morning and deal with grumpy, stressed out people in this society. You need to come home and forget about it for a while before facing it again the next morning. This is where TV sitcoms come into play. We turn on a funny sitcom, kick our shoes off, and forget about the real world out there.
So yes I say, enough reality more sitcom please.
