The Question; "Should we judge Presidents by their words or by their deeds?" People will often make judgements of Presidents based upon the words they have heard them speak. Historians will judge Presidents by their deeds, and by the results of those deeds.
Words are of critical importance and have their place, in life, in love, in providing direction, insight, and inspiration. They are a tool that provide us all, Presidents included, with a means of expression allowing us to be heard. Words allow our hopes, dreams, and desires to be communicated, to take shape, to be seen painted on the canvas within our minds and felt within our hearts.
The words from a song; "Heal America" (written by Daniel G. O'Leary, 2008), seem so significant and appropriate;
"America's the Land founded on a dream. America's the Land supported by team. America's the Land that will shine as the Sun. America's the Land that is not done.
We want America to heal today. We want America on her way. We want America mighty and strong. We want America united in song."
On this day, 9-10-09, the eve of 9-11, words capture our minds and our hearts, and transport us to another time and place. It was the deeds of men that appeared to cause time to stand still, to cause a Nation of people as diverse as the stars in the sky, to gasp and feel a collective pain so deep within their hearts that they appeared to be but one.
It was the hopes and dreams of our fore-fathers written in word with clarity and grace, filled with the certainty of that which was right and just, that inspired our founding fathers to carry out their deeds; debate, decide, and sign their documents proclaiming our Freedom, and establishing a Nation founded on a dream. It was the deeds of men, many of whom became our future Presidents, that have stood the test of time, and further inspired a Nation of "We the People..." (U.S.Constitution).
It was the words of one impassioned President standing on top of a mountain of rubble, followed by deeds that allowed us to find our way "home", to find and fan the flame within our hearts to be free, to seek justice, and rebuild what we could. It was the words of our next President, fueled by his dream promising change to right the wrongs, feed our hungry, heal our sick, put us to work, strengthen our economy, and provide for our security that gave us back our soul, the soul of a Nation cherishing to be free, HOPE.
Time will tell; Historians will bear witness and record his deeds. The Nation evolves as it should be. Words will be written for you and me. Remember; "America's the Land founded on a dream. America's the Land supported by team. America's the Land that will shine as the Sun. America's the Land that is not done.
We want America to heal today. We want America on her way. We want America mighty and strong. We want America united in song."
We are all significant. Have faith, have hope, have love for this Nation of "We the People..." Our Presidents do!
