Making your own scented sachet bag is very easy, and they are great gifts for family and friends, anytime of the year.
First, you need to gather your materials. You need to select a material for your bag. Something light weight, that will let the aromatic contents fill the air around them. You can even use a fine mesh material, lace, and least expensive of all, coffee filters. Coffee filters are thin, and can easily be decorated with colorful markers, or watercolor paints too.
Next item, is deciding what to put into your sachet bags. There are many different scents available. Use your imagination, or stick to the basics, like vanilla, or lavender
You can use potpourri, scented wax, or oils. If you have a garden full of fragrant flowers, you can harvest some flower petals, and lay them out to dry in a dark location, before you use them in your sachet. If the flower petals don't have enough scent to them to suit you, you can take some pine shavings, which can be found in the pet section of a department store, and sprinkle them with some fragrant oils, and toss them in with your flower petals for a boost of fragrance.
You can either hand sew, or use a machine to assemble your bag, or you can choose to make a square, or circle of material, toss in some fragrant ingredients, then gather the material and tie shut satin or curling ribbon, paper twists, or strips of leather. If you sew a bag, you can sew a hem around the top of the bag, for a pull cord, so you can re-use your bag, time and time again. Simply refresh your sachet contents, by dumping them into a zip-lock bag, drizzle a little scented oil into the bag, then let soak for a few days, to disperse the oil throughout your ingredients. Don't squeeze out any of the air from the bag,
You can make your bags small for in a dresser drawer, or the larger, more decorative ones can sit out in a bowl, or even hang them in front of the vents in your home, to circulate the fragrance.
If you love the scent of vanilla, you can use ingredients such as vanilla beans, vanilla wax chips, and pine shavings, with some vanilla scented essential oil dropped onto them. You can combine scents, such as vanilla, and cherry, cinnamon and vanilla, You can use dried cherries, cinnamon sticks, whatever you can dream up. Something for around the holidays, would be pumpkin, cloves, and nutmeg. Or you might like something relaxing, such as lavender, and almond. With the variety of essential oils that are available, you can create your own scent combination's by experimenting with pine shavings, and different scented oils. Another ingredient you could use, is dried apples, or citrus peels that have been dried as well.
A fun item to create, and bring pleasure all year round. Moms and daughters, this would be a great craft for you to do for some quality time together.. Certain scents remind me of certain times and people throughout my life. You will not only be making sachets, but also creating fond memories for years to come.
