Bible studies for kids: Joy

by Ed Ostrom

Created on: September 10, 2009   Last Updated: September 12, 2009

The Lord wants His children be filled with joy. Psalm 16:11 declares You will show me the path of life. In Your presence if the fullness of joy! In the presence of God we find joy in our inner being. Paul the Apostle prayed in Romans 15: 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. God the father longs for His followers to know the fullness of joy and live in the peace of His Love

In Childhood Sunday School days I use to sing:

Joy! Joy! Joy!

Surely this must mean:

Jesus First

Yourself last

And others in-between.

This simple little melody lays out for us the three fold requirements for us to know joy in our daily lives:

We must aim to put Jesus Christ first in our lives. Matthew 6: 33 says But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. If we want to know the fruit of joy in our lives we must do all we can to have a close growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We must seek to be like Him And to live for His glory in our daily lives. We must put ourselves last. Too often we are taught in these life that we need to blow our own horn .We need to praise ourselves. But God tells us to be humble and not braggers about ourselves. In humility we are suppose to seek to live gentle lives for the glory of God. In our day to day lives we are to seek to help others. We are to seek to be light in our dark world. The lives of others and their needs ought to be the emphasis of our lives and we need to seek to be extended leaders pouring out ourselves for the glory of God. We are to seek to put others in-between Jesus and ourselves. We are to seek to be magnets that draw others to you our Lord.

That is why we can sing Joy! Joy! Joy! Surely this must mean Jesus first. Ourselves last and others in-between. May the Lord help us to put Jesus First; ourselves last and others in-between. May we know the joy of victory in our daily lives.
