Internet sites you need to know about and why

Of the millions (possibly billions?) of pages of content up on the internet, one has to wonder if there are any diamonds in the rough to be found. Fortunately, not only do those "diamonds" exist, they stick out as if they're a 100-pound jewel lying around on a street. The small list below will point out what some of the most popular websites that are currently on the Internet right now. These websites aren't mean't to be ranked in any way due to the way they're numbered and laid out.

1) YouTube

A huge attraction for many people with different purposes in mind. It serves as a great source of entertainment for some, or it can serve as a method of getting your name or product known by potentially hundreds of thousands or even millions of people, whether you're an entrepreneur or an experienced musician.

This site has been so popular, that several memes like the Rick Roll or Leeroy Jenkins has garnered millions of views and viral fame. Not only that, it has also done far more for some musicians than just getting their name known, even elevating themselves to pseudo-celebrity status.

Video blogging has also been an emerging and growing way of getting visitors of YouTube to know you, be it through describing your day where you realized something shocking, to joking or poking fun of the latest news that surfaced. That's not to say YouTube is just for those kind of video bloggers, as there's tons of other video bloggers that have different interests, and attract their own respective audience.

Aside from that, there are a ton of people who use YouTube to promote themselves, and as a result, receive views ranging from 50,000 to something ludicrous like 1,000,000+.

2) Pandora Radio

One of the biggest Internet radios you could possibly find. Despite many of its competitors that try to mimic what Pandora does so well, it still has managed to monopolize its area of expertise in the US. The several features that make a visit to Pandora quick, easy and comfortable to use are also the ones that make it shine more than the other Internet radios.

One of their main features however, is the website's ability to accurately and logically pick songs depending on the music that you listen to. The first visit may not be perfect, but there are tools like the "thumb down" or "thumb up" system that tells which songs you want to be played more, or played less often on the stations that you create. Did I mention it saves the stations you create, as well as your preferences, on your account?

3) Cracked

One of the more crude, but humorous sites that you can visit. The authors of the website churn out quality content fairly quickly, but despite the slightly offensive content, it still manages to receive hundreds of thousands of viewers on nearly every article.

When it comes to the actual content however, it still remains fairly fresh and entertaining. The humor is usually delivered through witty analogies and such. The humor is sort of similar to Stephen Colbert's. The content is also delivered through a "top (number)" list, usually with several pictures that have been changed and photoshopped to make the picture and the topic seem relevant, despite not being mean't to be in the first place.

4) Can You Run It

One of the more useful sites if you happen to be a gamer. Requiring a quick ActiveX control plug-in to be installed, the website is able to scan your computer to see what its system specs are.

It does not use any sort of intrusive or malware-esque programs that work against you or your computer. The list is very updated on the current new games that are already released, while also retaining some older titles.

It displays whether your computer can run the game through a series of bars for each respective piece of hardware, indicating how well you can run it. The more of the bar that's filled up, the better. Consequently, it will tell you if you can't at all run the game, and indicate how you can resolve the problem.
