How religious faith causes problems in society

Religion and the progress of society do not mix. In order for humanity to grow and succeed, we must understand that any obstructions favor the fear in progress as a whole. Organized religion teaches us at an early age that there is a greater power ruling our lives. We are encouraged to live a productive and moral life, provided we earn such encouragement by forgoing 10% of our income to the church. However, there are other devices that we could otherwise waste our money on, but an escape from reality should not be one of them. Children are sometimes taught to believe in Santa Claus or a stork, for example, to answer life's basic questions. Religion does play on a basic reward system for encouragement. You pray to God/Jesus for forgiveness, and they will forgive you. Young children are also lied to in regards to the creation of life, since their young, innocent minds are unable to handle the concept of sex.

Children are not the only victims of organized religion, however, they are the most vulnerable. We protect our offspring from harm in order to place them on a path to religious devotion. As our parents were raised to be God-fearing individuals, we too are encouraged to do the same. Nevertheless, our parents know not what some of us know today. Organized religion is not a new concept, nor is it an everlasting view. We are born to fear the unknown and to replace fact with fiction. As science has evolved to what it is today, religion has taken several steps back. The fight to preserve religion as the cornerstone to a moral society is a losing battle. Our grandparents believe they are children of God, our parents are the product of a marriage supported by God, and we are the yields of our parents. Somewhere between, our generation and a few before it came to the realization that religion does not foster freedom of thought. The churches throughout the world have recognized this change and attempt to either adapt or resist. Such resistance comes at the price of our young, innocent, easily encouraged children. There are some who believe our children must follow God. Those numbers are waning, and those remaining are fighting harder to keep their way of life.

The actions of those supporting religion are being done in violation of the natural progression of society. Our advancement and utter survival is dependent on the ability to adapt to the world around us. No longer does humanity rely on fantasy to provide answers. Science is the discovery of truth, nothing more. Those who stand against science, stand against truth. It is simply the pathetic attempts of immature minds to deal with progress. For now, society remains forgiving. However, the future does not offer forgiveness for the mistakes brought on by fear.
