Poetry: Write your epitaph

by Nanette Piotrowski

Created on: September 09, 2009

With pen to paper, I state my wishes,

Of sound mind and quite sane,

the following I name.

Not by individual because I know they care,

but all my possessions they are to share.

Pictures, momentos, furniture and such,

all to be divided, but not too much.

Please take care of my animals or find them good homes,

I don't want them lost or looking for bones.

The land and the house to be sold or to keep,

but please when you do, for me do not weep.

No wires or hook-ups or machines to be used,

no liquids or preservatives or any other ooze.

I want to be buried on the land that I love,

so I may be released, just like the dove.

My clothing should be soft, airy and free,

like the gift of the caftan Mom gave to me.

Wild flowers are to adorn my resting place,

wherever you can find them, from whatever space.

A simple wooden plaque with a little shelac would be dear,

just to let everyone know that I was temporarily here.

With these simple phrases I attest and aver,

that I love you all both there and here.
