The future is what you make of it. There are a growing number of people who believe that we should not passively read tea leaves, cut open live animals, or look to the sky to divine our future. They believe we should make our future with our own hands and with our own minds.

If we can call the reading of signs "passive divination" then we might call the new divining "active divination." We either make the signs and create the significance or we choose to see all signs as pointing to things which are good and healthy for us.

This active divination goes by many names such as The Law of Attraction or The Secret. The basic premise is that we attract what we think about into our lives. This used to go by the names like The Power of Positive Thinking but now it has taken on a more spiritual aspect. It is not enough to seek spiritual wish fulfillment. A truly enlightened person will in addition, seek a better life for his family, friends and community.

In this New Age philosophy kindness is sometimes valued more than material things. There was a movie called Pay it Forward where in people did nice things for strangers. There is also the concept of unanticipated acts of kindness. If you give your neighbor a reason to smile, maybe someone will return the favor to you one day when you most need it.

Many new age ways of thinking are being brought together to try to create Spiritual Awakening and Spiritual Renewal. An recent example owes something to numerology. Namely 090909 or 9909 or 999 or Number 9. However it is phrased a number of people and organizations will seek to meditate, or pray, or hold concerts or in some way generate and focus spiritual energy on that day to in order to bring about spiritual awakening and spiritual renewal.

The day after 090909 is the Unity World Prayer Day and the day after that is the commemoration of 911. So this would seem to be an auspicious time.

The numerologists have a number of days to look forward to in the future such as 101010, 111111,and finally 121212. The last date, December 12, 2012 is supposed to herald the end of an age. Doomsday enthusiasts see this as the end of the world. New Age believers choose to believe that something wonderful is going to happen.

If you think about it the new, active divination takes into account existing objects or concepts such as dates and the alignments of stars and planets and newer concepts such as the notion that we can choose our own destiny and that we can choose to manifest health, happiness and even wealth in our own lives.
