Why do non-Christians celebrate Christmas and Easter?
Non-Christians probably celebrate Christmas and Easter because, like most people, eschewing the origins of these Holidays, they just want to use the time to come together as families and have a good time. Up until the fourth century Christians did not take part in these celebrations because they originated with pagan celebrations.
Since nowhere in the Bible does it tell us when Jesus was born, where did December 25th come from? Most historians agree that the date of Christmas was placed on December 25,the winter solstice, to correspond with the Roman solar holiday Dies Natalis Solis Invicti. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti means "the birthday of the unconquered Sun." Several solar deities were worshipped collectively on this day, including Elah-Gabal, a Syrian sun god; Sol, the god of Emperor Aurelian; and Mithras, a soldiers' god of Persian origin.
And what do eggs and rabbits have to do with Jesus? Well As with many other Christian dates, the celebration of Easter extends beyond the church. The origin of Easter goes back to the springtime ritual instituted by Queen Semiramis, the wife of Nimrod. Nimrod, a grandson of Noah, had turned from following his grandfather's God and had become a tyrannical ruler. According to the biblical record, as king, Nimrod created Bable, Nievah, Asshur, Calla and other cities, all known for lifestyles that promoted unspeakable evil and perversion. When Nimrod died, his wife, Queen Semiramis, deified him as the Sun-god, or Life Giver. The people also worshipped Semiramis herself as the goddess of fertility. In other cultures, she has been called Ishtar, Ashtur and yes, Easter. Rabbits and eggs where her symbol, representing fertility. Thus both of these holidays have their origins deep in pagan celebrations, therefore paganizing true worship.
But Christians as well as non-Christians do not seem to care where and when the celebrations come from, they just go along with everyone else. It has become a custom and a habit now. And it means big business! Months before the event, stores are filled with decorations to catch the eyes of the buyers. We are so overwhelmed by this frenzy that if we don't participate we are looked at as weird. So peer pressure has a lot to do with it. And since the secular industry gives you off, it is the opportune time to get together as families. Many non-Christians believe in gods that are not jealous. They have the freedom of picking which god they would like to worship. The Christian God is jealous. He exacts exclusive devotion. Exodus 34:14; Isaiah 42:8; Exodus 20:4,5; Matthew 4:10.
