Causes of misery in today's society

The causes of misery in today's society are many. People around us are just mean at times. Maybe, they do not intend to be but, life's stresses really tend to harden our hearts. Every thing is overwhelming. The multiple roles we must play in life to keep up with our environment. It makes us miserable. One of the most terrible miseries that I know is the power that worry holds on each one of us. Everyone has problems.

Some are just better at hiding them than others. Worry is like a dark spirit that blocks the warmth of the sun to our soul. It's effects are loss of sleep, lack of appetite , all very depressing.

The media is a large cause of misery. The stories of terrible happenings all across the world. It's shocking and even sad that our surroundings are just not as safe a we'd like to think it is. Some of these stories make me just want to cry. It effects my mood when I hear a child is missing or is found enduring past years of hellish living.

Misery around us has a lot to do with money. More like what people will do for money. Can you imagine all the crimes that happen to good people over a few dollars? I always thought people were valuable as humans. Criminals do not see people as humans. They couldn't to do such things against nature. They have to see people as material that they want to gain at any cost to society or even their own futures.

Quick self gratification is what they desire at any cost.

Maybe you can notice no one cares for anyone anymore. I know you've seen cars that will not move over for an ambulance with lights on to pass. Those few extra seconds or minutes may be crucial in the very life

Saving measures of another human. I guess someone else was afraid they'd be two minutes late for some event or most often no event but joy riding. How could today's society not be anything but miserable. When no one lifts up no one but, themselves. It's a me me world out there.

Another source of misery is a nation of people divided. They are divided by: race, age, wealth, poverty, sexual orientation and, religion. I understand we all have our belief systems. Trust me, I do have my own.

Why should I let that determine how I treat another human? I am not saying they have to be your best friend. Just show kindness when interacting with those around you. If I like you I like you and not your classification by discriminatory means. I do not have to agree with anything you do to like you for the person you are. Or, at least to smile and say hello while passing. That costs me nothing. It brightens my day and society around me. Why can't the world learn this? It's basically the golden rule. Start practicing this simple step today. It takes active people to change society for the better.
