I hate the cold weather! Summer to me is here and gone before you know it. It seems like just yesterday I was taking the cover off my pool and adding chemicals and attaching hoses to enjoy the next three months of sunshine, cook outs and a vast array of outdoor activities. But this year summer never really arrived at the place I call home. And now that month that usually means the beginning of school and the start of the football season is here which to me means that the colder temperatures will not be far behind.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the rainbow of colors that burst on the scene when the leaves begin that magical transformation from green, to fire red and sunburst yellow. I love the smell that fall brings in the air. In fact I enjoy the slower life that also comes with the cooler temperatures. Let's face it. Summer is a very busy time for me. The garden needs weeding and the four acres need cutting. Then there is the maintenance of the aforementioned pool. It seems like everyday there is something to do. The calender is filled with commitments. When the cold comes (I hate those words) the chores seem to vanish and there is more time to spend reflecting and relaxing.
The smell of a barbecue is replaced with the scent of burning leaves. Instead of vacuuming the pool, I blow leaves. The sounds of the birds singing during the day, and the crickets and frogs at night are replaced with a stillness that at times is annoying. With the windows being shut, it's almost as if the whole world has been shut out. I hate cold weather! Did I tell you that? As much as I hate the winter there are several pleasures that I can cope with when the frigid temps chill me to the bone. There is nothing more beautiful than to see a blanket of white cover everything. I would prefer green leaves over the cold snow, but the beauty is so breath taking when everything looks so pure.
Summer is always much more fun for me. When I was a kid the summer would fly bye so fast and before I knew it I was back in school. Now much older and much more to do, on, my to-do-list, the summers are but a quick reminder when they lasted longer and the only thing to worry about was the coming school year. Now its a reminder that the cold is coming. Did I mention I hate cold weather? The end of summer brings some mixed emotions. As much as I love the summer, the fall, winter and spring have good points of their own. I just know I love summer and it seems like it takes forever to return.
