Times are hard.
These hard times call
For some black magic.
I'd like to dip into
My bag of tricks
Like scoops at an
Ice cream social
To conjure up the
Ghost of Marie Laveau,
Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
Yes sir, sweet magic
Bag of tricks to
Take the bitter taste
Out of my mouth.
Social injustice, corporate greed,
Politician distrust has left this bitter taste.
Oh, what a waste!
Marie would make of those
Petty, crude socialite folk,
Them fat cat CEO's.
Chuckle, chuckle, snort, snort!
I don't even want to
Imagine what she might
Do to all those little
Short-sighted, pork spending,
High and mighty, get powerful
Off my back, paid in full
By lobbyists in the name
Of public interest, oh,
Forgot they're civil servants,
Congress Persons!
Yes sir! Sultry Marie Laveau
She would do them up right,
She would do things up tight,
She would use her might
That black magic of Marie Laveau!
Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses trying
To get out from a mountain
Of debt, trying to figure out
How to make next months rent,
Trying to breath free under
A burden of unemployed, underemployed,
Take whatever you can get, regret.
Suck that hurt in.
Ball it all up.
Push it way down.
Then, man, let it all go.
She's going to make everything alright!
Light candles and make offerings
To the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans,
The Benevolent Marie Laveau.
