Probably the first thing that comes to mind when you ponder the advantages of starting a home business is the ability to be your own boss, but there are actually many reasons to start your business at home. If you are not yet completely convinced that a home business is the way to go, consider the following advantages;

1. No more commute. Working from home means that you can kiss your morning commute goodbye. Your trek to work will be reduced to the time it takes to trot across to your home office. This eliminates time wasted in traffic or rushing through the subways that take you to commercial locations. You can use this time instead to casually sip a cup of coffee and read the morning paper before you settle down to some serious work.

2. Low overhead costs. Running a business from home means that you don't have the expense of commercial rent. This can save a new business a bundle when it matters the most. New start-ups can channel their limited budgets into its marketing efforts instead.

3. Great tax benefits. Home businesses can qualify for some great tax benefits. You may be able to claim a portion of your rent of mortgage on your tax return. It may also be possible to write off other expenses that serve double duty for business as well as pleasure including, vacation or business travel, research materials and periodicals, internet service, gas and car payments just to name a few. If you are not familiar with the applicable tax laws in your state it is a good idea to get acquainted as it could save you tons of money.

4. It is easier to pull up your stakes. As long as your home business is not dependent on being in a specific area you can easily move your home and thus your business with little or no impact. There is no need to reestablish a presence in your new neighborhood as you may communicate with you clients via the internet anyway.

5. Independence. The sense of freedom that comes from running your own home business is hard to beat. When done successfully it can be one of the most gratifying experiences. If you are in a business that you really enjoy it is even more rewarding, as you will be making money doing what you love and not to mention doing it on your own terms.
