Adopting a pet is a rewarding, and joyful experience. It is a rewarding feeling to know that you are saving a life, and helping out with the pet population.
This is our memory of adopting our dog "Happy"
My Son has A.D.D. and had just lost his Grandma, and was going through a very bad time in his life. He wanted no more, than to have a puppy for a new best friend. So, my husband and I talked it over, and we decided to take him to the animal shelter, to adopt a puppy, and save a life.
When we got there we noticed, there were many puppies, and dogs to choose from, which was very heartbreaking, knowing that if someone didn't adopt them, or claim them, they would be meeting their untimely fate very soon.
We went to many cages looking at all the dogs. But, there was one particular puppy that caught our eye. He was a little white ball of fur, and as cute as could be. The minute my Son, and he met eyes, it was instant love. He ran to the front of the cage, and the puppy came right up to him kissing his fingers, and rolling around, and giving him a "Please take me home" look. At that moment, our hearts just melted. We knew he was the one for our son, and we were prepared to take him home with us.
We told the caretakers, we wanted that puppy, and were ready to take him home right away...But unfortunately there was a waiting list both to see if the owner would claim him within the following week, and also six people ahead of us to get him if the owner did not show up.
Well, we were almost in tears, thinking that there would be no chance of us getting that puppy, with all the odds against us. We were beside ourselves, and felt so bad for our Son, with all he had been through in his young life.
Then, came the night before that faithful day. We thought we better not go. We didn't want our Son, to go through anymore disappointment. My Husband and I talked it over, and thought we would give it a try anyway.
So, the next day arrived and we were up very early. We got there before the shelter opened, and were the first ones there. We waited, and prayed that none of the people ahead of us on the list would show up, or he would be going with them...
Well, we waited for four long hours, and every time someone would come into the shelter, we would pray they were not there for the puppy. Finally 12:00 pm. came, and no one had showed up. They called our Son over to the main desk, and told him " You won Buddy, you get to take your puppy home!"
Tears of joy were running down
