My answer to this is yes and no. How much time is spent on writing everyday determines the amount of money you can bring into your pocket. If for example you write one article per day, you cannot expect much money from that.
It all depends on what you call profitable. Are you writing for a few quid each month or is it your intention to earn a full time living from it? Simply writing a few articles a week, hanging them on the internet and waiting for people to read to get money is not enough. Helium and Triond are reliable sites which will pay you for your writings but you cannot expect thousands of dollars. If your answer is to earn a full time living then you have to go the extra miles.
Look for sites which will buy your writings or propose your service to companies who are willing to pay you for writing product reviews (do your search on the internet), create your own blog/s. Helium has a market place which allows its writers to sell their articles, you should consider that one. You are not going to sell straightforward unless you have written a particular subject which was on demand but continue to write and submit to the market place and be patient.
Like any other business which requires time, patience and a lot of hard work, the same rules apply for online writing business. Contrary to what many people think, an online writing business is not a get-rich-quick-system.
You are building a business therefore your hours differ from a normal 9-5pm. Without a doubt more time is needed. You have to work patiently every single day. There are sleepless nights involved time and again. If your bedroom is also your office then you need to have the will to restrict yourself from watching TV (if your TV is in your bedroom) while writing, from listening to music or from moving from your place for no particular reason. You might take a break after 3 to 4 hours but avoid distraction at all cost.
Factors affecting writing.
Time:
As mentioned earlier, an online writing business consumes much time. You've been able to write five articles in one day don't expect hundreds of dollars on your account the next morning. Its unlikely to happen. Let your work grow slowly but surely. The money grows gradually as well. It can take one year or more before your online writing is well on track. In the mean time allow yourself the time and patience needed to go through every single day writing at least one article. Take time to share your work on stumble upon, reddit, facebook, twitter
