The fuss about YouTube

by John Rozen

Created on: February 10, 2007   Last Updated: December 12, 2007

You Tube has become very popular because people are fascinated with documenting, recording and sharing their lives. This behavior is inherent in our genes. The same basic need was satisfied by cave drawings and is the reason we spend so much time watching reality television. We cannot help but to document our experiences and share them with everyone we can and we are compelled to watch or listen as others share their experiences. The video camera and the camera phone have given us a new and easy way to capture and share our experiences instantly.

As the price of storage and bandwidth continues to drop and as mobile communication technologies improve more content documenting our lives will be stored and shared. It is a revolution in the making that will change the world. Google believes this enough to spend billions to lead the revolution with the purchase of You Tube and Microsoft is investing heavily in ways to store and index all the information of our lives.
