As winter approaches, it is time to start thinking about what things one might need to add to their winter wardrobe. Some winter wardrobe necessities are pretty obvious and straight forward, but when it comes to figuring out what types of shoes are practical and appropriate while still being fashionable and stylish, some practical thinking is required. Consider the type of climate you are living in, what types of conditions you might regularly expect to encounter during a typical winter and the purposes for which you will need your shoes.

Here are some suggestions that may help to make the process of figuring out how to get the style of shoe or boot that you want while still making sure that you have what you will need for inclement winter weather.

*WINTER BOOTS -

< Snow Boots >-

The first thing that should be on your list of "must haves" for winter, especially if you live in a place where snow is common is a pair of warm winter boots. You will need something that has good traction, is waterproof, won't be ruined by stains from water, dirt or salt, and that are comfortable. They should keep your feet warm and dry.

The amount of snow you typically get should help you decide whether you need to consider getting low, ankle height boots or boots that are knee high or come up to the middle of the calf of your legs. For younger women, UGG boots are a great choice (although they are suitable for anyone who has to deal with snow,) because they provide warmth, work well in snowy conditions, keep the feet dry and can be treated to be waterproof and repel stains. Boots that are lined with fleece or some other warm material are great for cold winter climates.

< Rain Boots >-

If you live in the sort of climate where winter is the rainy season, you'd be wise to have a pair of good rain boots. Rain boots should obviously be waterproof, have good traction, be able to keep the feet warm and dry, and be well made enough to take a beating in really rainy weather.

*WALKING SHOES -

Walking shoes are always a necessity in winter. They should be shoes that have good traction in case there is ice on the ground. Purchase them large enough that you can wear heavy socks with the shoes. Unless the shoes are large enough to accommodate heavy socks, they will be uncomfortable. Walking shoes should always have enough room for the toes to move around when walking. Besides, feet spread during the day when people walk a lot.

*WORK SHOES -
