Poetry: A lack of love

It feels like I've lost a brother

Said goodbye to the one and only lover I'll ever be blessed to know

And why...

Why is it that all I do these days is cry

I told you that running these streets like you were bad and tough

Was going to one day make the will to re-awake quite rough

I thought that my love was good enough

To save you from yourself

I still wonder if I did all I could to help you

When thoughts of despair crept in and took over control of your heart

Without me knowing

Couldn't see the pain in your eyes

Although your teeth were always showing

Took that leap onto the other side

Your heart blindingly glowing

Now that I'm sitting here at your funeral

Among the procession of flowering bringing

A witness to a church full of slow singing

I contemplate on our relationship, you were a brother, lover and friend

Rolled into one, memories flashing in my mind

Sitting on my front steps,

Kissing under the stars

Love letters under my doormat

How could I ever live without that?
