Tips for straightening curly or wavy hair

This is the age old topic, the one many women come for looking for answers, how to straighten your curly mane. We all want to look a bit different than what we were born with, women with straight hair like it curly, women with curly want it straight! But yes, there are ways to do this and it's actually more simple than it looks, even if you have the tightest most frustrating curls around.

Most women who try to straighten their curls can end up with a big frizzy mess and that's not a pretty site. You may think about giving it all up once you see your frazzled mess of hair but wait, there are products that can calm this down significantly. Getting deep frizz conditioner is a wonder worker for this specific problem. I've heard great stories from women who've used John Frieda's Frizz Ease. It's a leave on conditioner that gets deep down into the roots of your hair, relaxing it and letting it breathe.

If you're in a rush for straight hair, use the blow dryer, which can be just as effective as an iron. Get a round brush with natural bristles to do this job, since it will taut your hair and hold it still as you dry it. If you need a new blow dryer use one with a cooling setting and a low heat setting. These are less damaging to your hair and you'll need to use the cooling option to set your style in place.

Now with your brush and blow dryer start drying your hair in sections. For this, take most of your hair except one small section and clip it up at the top of your head. Pull the small section of hair straight and as tight as you can with your bristled brush. Point the blow dryer at the lower end and work your way up. Once the piece is dry take a small amount of hair from the clip and repeat. Keep doing this until all your hair is fully dry. Then use some deep conditioner to stop it from frizzing.

With the iron, it can be a tad easier and take up less time, especially if your hair is thick. Any hair iron will work for this, but get an especially low heated option one if you're worried about damaging your hair. Let your hair dry naturally overnight. In the morning heat up your iron while you try to brush the kinks out of your hair. Once it has heated up, it's time to use it. Just like blow drying, work into sections. Clamp your iron on the small section of hair you're working on, at the roots. Hold it very tightly as you make your way down the length of your hair. Repeat this about 4 times until you get the style you desire. Now work on the next section and repeat again. Keep doing this until your hair turns out smoothly. Don't forget to use your frizz conditioner or else your hair may not stay smooth for hours.

Curling hair is very problematic at times when straightening but if all else fails why not just go natural with your big curly mane?
