We all look forward to family vacations as it gives us time to catch up with and spend quality time with our loved ones. There are several great choices for family fun in North Carolina that truly cannot be found anywhere else. The mountain region of North Carolina offers up great history, cultural difference, and the simplicity of enjoying time outdoors.

One can find their ideal accommodations here as well, whether you prefer the creature comforts of a luxury resort hotel or just the creatures in one of the many local camping grounds you are sure to find your niche here.

The Blue Ridge Parkway's millions of yearly visitors can certainly attest to it's popularity with vacationing families and if your plans are to embark on a driving tour with the family this is most definitely the place to start. Dubbed America's favorite drive your first stop should be the Parkway's Destination Center. Here you will find not only a large interactive map of the parkway outlining some of the best sights and activities along the Parkway but you will also find trained staff members eager to help you in the planning of your road trip by forming an individual itinerary unique to your family. With over 450 miles of Parkway to travel you are sure to find something for everyone of your family members, whether 8, 18 or 80.

If you and your family would rather have something specific to entertain you then you may find the North Carolina Zoo or Aquarium more your style. The Zoo which is located in Asheboro North Carolina and is one of the largest habitat zoos in the world. What is a habitat zoo you ask? Well, a habitat zoo means you won't find any steel cage enclosures here. All of the animals are contained within a natural habitat sanctuary with plenty of space to roam, graze and play. In addition to the zoo, you will find new and exciting special events that change monthly but any are sure to thrill the child in us all. For tickets or further information you can contact The North Carolina Zoo at 1.800.488.0444 or 336-879-7000

Rather see the aquatic creatures on your visit to North Carolina. This is easily done by visiting any one of the three aquariums in the area. Roanoke Island, Pine Knoll Shores or Fort Fisher are sure to please even the youngest members of your family. Created in the late 1970's and each one dotting along the North Carolina coastline. No matter which one you choose you are sure to see sights that are educational as well as fun for the entire family.
