In preparation for the day that your child is ready to attend preschool, there are many things that you should be aware of as a parent. The parental involvement aspect is often overlooked, as many people tend to think that teaching children is the sole responsibility of the teacher.
On the contrary, parents must prepare their children for preschool long before they sign up for classes.
Trying to get a child ready for preschool can be simple. If you have read to your children since before they were born, they will be more than ready to tackle the tough chore of reading. If your children are avid readers, and lovers of story time, then they will be well prepared for circle time at preschool.
When talking with your children, you should be role playing, and trying to prepare them for the world of preschool. Playing school at home can be a great start, and can encourage your children to gain an interest in the learning process.
The world is full of wonder, and if you prepare your child by constantly explaining things to them, they will have an insatiable thirst to learn.
All of the positive aspects of preschool should be discussed with your child before they attend their first day of preschool. Emphasize the friendships, the learning, the fun and excitement, and the chance to play with a lot of new and cool stuff.
If your child seems to be the type of child prone to separation anxiety, then you must begin to deal with this immediately. You want the transition to be smooth, so all of the pre-planning must be done properly.
Before you begin preschool, it would be wise to take your child to the school for a tour. Let your child explore the facilities and build their own images in their mind about what fun preschool will be for them. If they are allowed to gain a feeling of comfortability, they will be more apt to be recessive to starting school.
Do not overstay your welcome, rather leave just when your child is feeling at ease and having fun, as this will give them the urge to want to return at a later date.
Children are a resilient bunch, and any little setbacks should not be feared, they should just be addressed in a timely fashion. Find out from the preschool teacher what skills and concepts will be touched upon during the school year, and introduce these at home if you do not already engage in these activities.
This will give your child a feeling of confidence when they are at preschool for the first time. If they are already able to perform certain tasks, they will have a lot more fun than a child that struggles right off the hop.
In preparing a child for preschool, it is absolutely imperative for the parents to screen the preschool first, and then to speak with the teacher to find out what they can best be doing at home before they arrive to help make the transition a smooth one.
Children will follow the lead of their parents, so make sure that attending preschool is seen as a positive growing stage, and watch your children flourish.
