To be Frankenstein, a Wolf or Teen Idol-or not to be on Halloween, that is the question. Well that and a few other questions are what I ask myself about a Halloween outfit. Questions like:
Who am I on Halloween? What am I doing that night. Do I have a partner, or don't I? Am I in a group? Is this outfit for an office party or not? Do I have to buy my costume, and if I know where to find the items for my outfit. Am I creative or do I have to buy? Not brain buster questions of course but there they are.
I'm not here to bore you with who I was when I was five. Instead I'll bore you with my most fun costumes (I am a graphic artist normally by trade, so I'm sometimes creative), along with a few reactions and ideas for your review.
I would say that all the people on this site are quite literate so I'll start with literate. I'm a little older so my expressions may not be very today, but some of the readers here may get them. One year I went as Jimmy Hendrix would say a "Foxy Lady". I can sew, so many times my outfits involve sewing. I made an outfit out of red fur complete with a tale and ears. It was complimented with a backless black dress and stilettos. I received a little award for this, although it was a lot of work.
Along this same line of thinking, one year I went as "A Real Looker." This costume consisted of a skin tone body suit and tights, a bunch of paper maiche eyeballs sewn onto the body suit and eyes (with fake eyelashes) drawn on my face and legs.
The easier and most fun costumes (for me) are of crazy people, vampires, ghosts and of course zombies. An old robe, some white out and a little fake blood for a zombie or crazy person. (A crazy person always gets an axe). If you can make candy blood so it can drip out of your mouth it's a real crowd pleaser. A sheet, spray your hair white, you're a ghost. Since I mentioned a few reactions in the beginning of this story, I'll give a few reactions to my crazy lady. (I was 25 at the time), one guy at White Castle asked me for a date. My ex-boyfriend ran down the street yelling for everyone to meet his wife. My girlfriend slammed the door on me when I came to get her. Who knew drooling blood and carrying a hatchet would do that.
My niece was a ghoul one Halloween. She developed a costume by accident. She got hot and threw off her cape. She was in her jeans and graphic tee. She looked like a dead rock star and they looked better with her wild hair and freaky face then the cape.
I find things around my house. I raid family members stuff (if permitted of course). I made a 40's hat recently (for a part, I act a little too) out of an ice cream top. As I said sewing is my creative flair.
As for costumes I've had that are for more than one person - I made two facemasks, one of my friend and one of me. We traded places and went as each other. He made a better lady then I did a man, but then I am short. It was still fun seeing the guys pretend to hit on him. Well at least I think they were hitting on him.
I've been a lot of people on Halloween, as I'm sure anyone who loves Halloween has. I've got a lot of great memories of people from my life and have thoroughly enjoyed them. From the crazy mental escapee to the copy of my friend. I've taken it a step further by getting into acting, but for me it's always been one of my favorite times. All of the costumes, decorations and attitude are a wonderful escape and a great celebration of everyone's creativity.
If it 's a favorite for you too, and whether you find anything helpful in this article or not Happy Haunting whoever you become.
