The main cause of toothache can be attributed to diet. The culprit of the pain you experience is sugar which breaks into acid and leaves bacteria in your mouth. Most of us have experienced the pain of toothache and know it can range from a dull ache to a full blown sharp, intense pain. This pain usually happens at the most inconvenient times such as during the night or when you can't get a dentist appointment right away. If you find yourself with a toothache and you have to wait to see a dentist there are numerous home remedies for a toothache.

Garlic and rock salt

If you are suffering from toothache try a clove of garlic with a piece of rock salt in it and place this on your tooth. You'll be surprised at the relief it will give you. In fact chewing a piece of garlic on a daily bases can help prevent toothache. A glove of garlic with peanut butter placed on a piece of bread and placed on your tooth can also help your toothache. Place the piece of bread between your teeth and bite down leaving it inside for approximately four hours.

Ice

Ice can be a soother for toothache. You can place an ice pack directly on the side of your face where the tooth is paining or take an ice cube and place it directly on the tooth. This helps freeze the area and in turn will take care of the pain. You can also use ice by rubbing it on the V shaped part of your hand between the thumb and the forefinger. Rub the ice cube in this area for five to seven minutes and you will find it will help relieve the pain in your tooth. You can repeat this as often as necessary.

Brandy

If your pain is severe enough you may be tempted to drink this remedy but it works better using it as a painkiller. Take a mouthful of brandy and hold it in your mouth over the tooth that is giving you trouble. Try to keep it there for at least five minutes. It will kill the pain in your tooth. You can also apply brandy to a cotton ball and soak it. Place the cotton ball on your tooth and bite down on it. It is best to try and keep it there as long as possible it will relieve the pain of your tooth.
