Screams could be heard in every direction, men women and children all ran in all directions. I stood watching as the dragons swooped down unto our city in a fiery rage like none before known to mankind. The war had finally begun, we were the front lines. I lay within my pile of rubble with my squadron of riflemen looking on as the dragons worked their way through our limited defenses. Fighter jets screamed overhead, and our wand division blasted spells this way and that way attempting to disband the Dragon wing attacking us.
The basic layout of the battle was quite simple really. On the north end of the city lay open fields and small hills to the south and west lay the worlds largest mountain range with mountains so tall they blocked direct sunlight from reaching half of the city year round. The dragon wing had come from the mountains and were forcing their way towards the open fields on the north. Our forces had been surprised and pushed back to the center of the city. We were holding the battle very well in this position, thanks to the skyscrapers blocking low level attacks from the large dragons.
I looked at my squadron and decided it was time to fight on.
" Alright guys, here's the plan. I want Wiki and Sullivan to hold this corner, Tapia and I will cover from the rooftop, Tomphson and Carver will go for reinforcements. Got it?"
" Yes Sergeant!" they all yelled at once.
I knew they would know exactly what to do, so Tapia and I moved into the building. The elevators were out so we humped it forty stories into the sky to get clean shot's at the dragon wing. As we broke through the door leading out unto the rooftop a tremendous explosion knocked us to our knees. Looking toward the explosion we could see that not only were we under assault from the air. Hundreds of Kilderanian foot soldiers were systematically marching through the streets toward the battle front.
" You see that Tapia?" I asked astonished at what I was seeing.
" Yeah sergeant I am." he answered calmly.
I set up the 240 bravo on the edge of the roof and opened up into the Kilderanian soldiers ranks. They fell quickly and without firing back a single shot. The formations began to break up into units of men who began to return fire. The dragon wing that had been demoralizing our forces began to take heavy damage from our fighters and wandmen. They were retreating fast, although the Kilderanian forces had began pushing forwards.
Tapia had began to throw grenades at any exposed enemies with lethal accuracy. I had run out of ammunition for the 240 and was firing my rifle at the closest enemy soldiers. Their numbers had dropped drastically in only a few minutes. At last they began retreating for the mountains, none of them would make it due to the fact that our Army had surrounded their position and was then picking them off one by one.
Reinforcements had arrived at our position at last and began to secure the area. We were a little shaken and out of breath, although happy that the attack had been swift and unsuccessful. As I talked with my fellow NCO's I sensed that something was coming, and coming fast. Not only did I notice, it seemed that everyone was looking towards the sky. At first I saw nothing, after a second or two a black dot appeared almost directly overhead.
The explosion that followed flattened me to the ground, I was a lucky one, the others around me were picked up and thrown to their death's. The light from the explosion was so intense it burned through my eyelids and blinded me. The war had just taken a turn, and it seemed that the Kingdom was on the side that would be defeated with this new weapon.
