The word "Superfood" conjures up images of scientists and chemist in their labs trying to genetically engineer our dietary needs. In fact nature has already done it for us. These Superfoods that are exciting the medical media have been here all along. We have been sitting down to dinner with them forever. They are the fruits, the vegetables, even the fish that are found in most local grocery stores. They are old recipes served up with new information.
According to the article titled, "Eight Superfoods for Health and Beauty From Your Local Grocery Store," found at " Natural News.com" a diet made up primarily of these supercharged consumables can positively effect everything from diabetes, to heart disease to cancer. According to the article, "Superfoods are those foods containing compounds so powerful that they have a profound effect on your health profile." It also states that, "the impact on you from choosing a diet composed of superfoods will be nothing short of astounding." To what degree that is true is up for debate; but the fact is incorporating these elements into the daily diet will help strengthen the bodies over all health.
The actual list of what can be called superfoods is extensive. It includes any number of edibles to select from. Preferences also vary by expert; with some foods being considered stronger than others. Below is a list of choices that made the top of most lists. Sources include sites like, WebMD.com and DiabetesHealth.com. According to these sites, these seem to be the elite Superfoods offering the most benefits.
* Berries made everyone's list; and the darker the better. In particular Blueberries seem to have the largest following. It is said the fruit is packed with antioxidants, and is high in Vitamin C and potassium. Berries can lower the risk of heart disease and cancer; as well as being anti-inflammatory. And it doesn't matter whether fresh or frozen are used, both work equally well.
* Beans were another food group that drew favor from all. "They are small in size, but big on fiber and iron," according to the article, "12 Superfoods You Need To Be Eating," found at, "Startcooking.com." A good source of protein and fatty acids; they also contain B Vitamins and a variety of minerals..
* Fish containing high amounts of Omega 3 also made the list. Salmon was the most popular choice; but herring, sardines and mackerel were also mentioned. They lower the risk of heart disease, help with arthritis, and may even help with memory loss
