The argument over Homeschooling will be one that will be waged for years. Everyone will always think that their opinion on the matter is the right one. I home schooled my children for years, and I miss it dearly, but circumstances in life forced me to have to put them into the system.
The whole time I home schooled, I received nothing but anguish from my parents over the issue. If you glean nothing else from this, please learn this; if you have a loved one who has made that decision to Home school, whether you agree with it or not, please show support. Don't be a roadblock. I wrote this while I was still homeschooling my children.
You see my mother is a product of the system, she believes that in order for a child to adjust normally to society they have to be put into public school and let the school system teach children what the right way for them to think is. I get this lecture every year a school year starts.
I asked her once what her biggest problem with my kids being home schooled is, and the two things she answered with was: They need to Socialize and you need a break.
I honestly almost died laughing. Lets start with Socialize: The American Heritage Dictionary says this: socialize
VERB:
socialized , socializing , socializes
VERB:
tr.
To place under government or group ownership or control.
To make fit for companionship with others; make sociable.
To convert or adapt to the needs of society.
VERB:
intr.
To take part in social activities.
OTHER FORMS:
socialization (-sh-l-zshn) KEY (Noun), socializer (Noun)
How interesting it is that is the one word I constantly hear about us Home schoolers. Our kids need to be able to socialize. Yep, thats what I want, my kids placed under government or group ownership or control and lets not forget the part where they need to be made fit for companionship with others, oh hold on, missing one important thing, they need to be converted or adapted to the needs of society. But, then I agree they do need to take part in social activities.
Lets explore it further, To take part in Social Activities:
Social: social
ADJECTIVE:
Living together in communities.
Of or relating to communal living.
Of or relating to human society and its modes of organization: social classes; social problems; a social issue.
Living together in organized groups or similar close aggregates: Ants are social insects.
Involving allies or members of a confederacy.
