Reasons for raising the minimum wage:

Everyone knows that there are people working at minimal jobs. These people have children and families to feed and clothe. They also need a place to live. Granted they live in America, the land of the opportunity. No one knows why these people continue to work at these types of jobs, but none the less there are millions of people that need to earn a decent wage.

What people don't seem to comprehend is that we as a society need these people. The people that work at these jobs is what keeps out society going. Think of all the times a person doesn't want to cook. What does a person do when they don't want to do their own laundry, or clean their own houses?

They call someone to deliver a pizza or other fast food. They will carry their clothes to the cleaners or call a maid service to come in a few days a week. Our society thrives on these people who earn minimum wage.

Everyone looks down on them but in reality, our society can't live without them. Whatever their reason for not furthering their education, they are all hard working people. No less important than the top executive in a company earning hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In fact, if it weren't for that person earning the minimum wage, that top executive wouldn't be earning his hundreds of thousands each year. It is the lower working class people who run the companies and keep them in business. Why shouldn't they get a decent share of the profits?

Their children need to go to school and see the doctors just like the top executives families. You see all these big companies showing high profits for their fiscal year, yet they can't seem to pay a slightly higher cost of living to their employees that are actually doing all the work.

Buying clothes and school supplies for one child during a year cost approximately $700 dollars.

Has anyone tried to rent a decent apartment or house lately? When you are earning less than a thousand dollars a month, where are are you going to find a decent place to live. Even a run down house costs a thousand dollars a month or close to it.

They must pay for electricity and gas to be able to live in that house or apartment. Then you must add in the cost of food. Does anyone think about how much it costs to buy food for a family of five? These are basic necessities, these are hard working people. Why should they be deprived of a decent life simply because they don't have a college degree.

Having a college education doesn't make a person any
