Remember
The dead, though not completely gone,
forever in the minds, in the hearts of others,
remaining free to wander, to explore,
to discover new ideas, new thoughts,
the reasons why time has stopped,
ended so abruptly in a swift burst
of red, orange and yellow
illuminating in the brilliantly clear blue sky.
An image, a word, that links it to our hearts:
Young.
Another word follows:
Unjust.
Sad and sorrowful,
alone in the empty field,
quiet beneath a slab of stone,
yet the spirits rise toward the sky, meeting on the ground
to talk and gossip and have fun
like other children,
The living, the young living, breathing,
enjoying life,
far from the cries and the colors
that filled the air that morning.
The poor people,
entire lives lost
and generations never to be known,
but never to be forgotten.
One wish requested
in the silence of the field where the buildings once stood -
Remember.
This one word written, repeated in the sky -
Remember.
And now to retire beneath the marble.
