They kissed you on the cheek and waved goodbye after buying you one last meal. It was a good meal too, and you probably didn't appreciate it. But you will soon.
College is an invaluable experience that comes with a hefty price tag. Whether you are getting help from your parents, are working for financial aid, or are on scholarship, money can get quite tight through your college career. For the first time you'll find yourself paying bills. Grocery items, lunches, dinners, dates, and when you reach the right age, booze. Your wallet will get light pretty fast if you are not careful. But their are ways to reduce your spending, and increase your savings at school.
The first thing that you should realize is that every dollar you do not spend is a dollar that you earn. When you go grocery shopping, look for generic brands instead of brand names. Many of these products are just as good and cost much less. You should also make a list before you go shopping in order to keep from excessive and unnecessary spending. Keeping track of your purchases can also help you weed out unneeded purchases.
Another way to cut costs is to shop at thrift stores. Shopping at thrift stores will not only get you five shirts for the price of one, but will also boost your fashion status. College trends are born in thrift store closets. You can find unique clothes that will help you separate from the crowd.
If you take a date out to dinner, try searching for a BYOB. Liquor can often be more then half of your dinner bill. Bringing your own beer or wine can greatly reduce your cost, while not reducing your cool factor. BYOB's are often hip restaurants that cater to younger crowds.
If you go to bars, make sure to check out happy hours and drink deals. Make a schedule for the best places to go on any particular night. Whether it be Monday night martinis, or Thursday night U Call its. Knowing the best deals in your area can help you have a good time, as well as save money. Happy hours also work for food. Many restaurants will run half price appetizers, or two for one meal deals.
You should also check to see what establishments give discounts for students. Carry your student ID with you. Movie theatres, restaurants, museums, and many other establishments give discounts to students. Carrying your ID with you may give you unsuspected savings.
Another way to save money is to simply walk. Cabs can be expensive, and so can public transportation. Get a bike, or use your feet to get around. This can help you get in shape, and keep some extra bucks in your wallet.
If you are really desperate for cash, there is one last thing that you can do.
Get a job.
