How to make money while traveling

The best and easiest way to make money while on the road is to save money. Every dollar that you don't spend is a dollar that you have earned. This theory, however, can interfere with some of the fun things you may plan to do on your trip. Good for you that their are some solid opportunities to make actual green cash while living out of your backseat.

First off, you need to assess your skills. You may be lucky enough to be gifted with talents that transfer well to life on the road. If you are musically talented you can always pop a squat on the street corner and play to unappreciative crowds for a few singles and some silver change. It isn't as dreary as it sounds, and if you are not looking to make serious cash, busking could help cover the cost of food for the day.

If you find yourself capable of making nick nacks, you might want to direct your travels toward arts and crafts festivals. Check in with each festival as their permits may require different things from you. Their are a good many people that work on the road selling paintings, crafts, t-shirts, or anything else at various fairs across the country.

The internet has also become an invaluable tool to travelers. If you have a knack for writing you might be able to find a job for a magazine, or a paper that allows you to telecommute. You might even be able to make money off of your own blog. If you decide too pursue making money off of your blog, be patient, and dont be discouraged. It could take some time to build traffic and revenue. A blog might not be the best idea for quick cash, but in time, it could draw a steady flow of income.

Their are those, however, that do not have any discernible talents. Travelers that only have the need to keep traveling. If you can plan ahead, you can work your way across the country. One of the best, and easiest places to find work is at hostels. Hostels usually have a rotating staff of travelers. The pay is nearly always minimal, if anything, but will always include a free room. Much of our money is spent on accommodations when we travel. Cutting out this expense can keep us on the road longer, maybe even long enough to let that blog generate some income.

You can also look on Craigslist.org for temporary work..If you are traveling through big cities check out the gigs section. You can almost always find jobs that last a day or less. These jobs might include bartending a party or helping someone move out of an apartment. Their are many labor jobs, and the event section could land you free tickets to concerts for minimal work. You can even post resumes on craigslist, or ask if anyone has temporary work.

If you do not have a direct destination, a great way to find work is by traveling from festival to festival. Festivals are always looking for help. Whether it be for taking tickets, or cleaning the grounds. Just make sure to contact them early because these spots can fill up quick. If you plan ahead, you can work your way across the country. And if you are in a tight spot, just ask. People may be more generous then you think.
