Typical of the average U.S.A. citizens' attitude, one writes of the U.S. as a huge country. It is a lot less huge than some others, and not much different than the clean, straight, comparatively honest country that lies just north of the U.S. border and just south of Alaska. For the Americans who see the U.S. as NOT ignorant of matters outside of it, one should be aware of some things. For instance, as late as the 1960s, many, many Americans thought Canada was a frozen wasteland throughout the year. When I became a water ski instructor in Miami, almost everyone who knew I was Canadian was amazed that I was a successful competitive water skier... they thought we rarely had open water upon which to ski.
The U.S.A. is falling farther behind the rest of the world all the time. Different spelling of many words, such as labor (labour), humor (humour), night (nite). This is due to the high level of illiteracy in the "huge", rich, U.S.A. And almost all the rest of the planet measures things in the much more logical, sensible metric system, (kilometers, kilograms, meters, centimeters, millimeters, etc.). This puts the U.S. at odds with many of its trading partners, and causes no end of translations and calculations.
The major factor in the faltering U.S. position is George W. Bush. How could a nation of supposedly intelligent, supposedly alert people let a spoiled brat corrupt creep steal the first election. Don't Americans realize that it all happened because (A) G.W.Bush's Daddy was head of the CIA for some time, and undoubtedly called in a few favours (oops) favors to help his son. Let us not forget also that the crisis ended in Florida (where the criminal president's brother was governor). The whole thing was rigged, and obviously so. The entire world would be a better, safer place if the criminally responsible courts had let the real winner, Al Gore, have his proper place in history. Proof that Gore was the right guy in the first place is that now, Mr. Gore has found another way to do good... the environment. That Bush creep has only one thing in mind... more and more fabulous wealth and corruption. Of course Iraq was attacked so more American companies can get more oil out of there for less. It is completely unfathomable how you could have elected him AGAIN, is spite of his innumerable trasgressions.
How about Cheney... perhaps the only worse criminal than Bush in that whole corrupt nation. His old cronies from Haliburton must be buying platinum Lincoln Navigators
