Gone but not Forgotten

Tell me, where did you go?
Also, why can't I forget?
It would be easier
If my mind could be swept.

I don't want to complain
About remembering you,
But my soul is shredded
Every time that I do.

If you are truly gone,
Then, why aren't you forgotten?
Like some fruit that's left out
All soggy and rotten.

Souls don't fade as will fruit,
But if it did work that way,
Then your imprint, so clear
I'd remove from my brain.

Each moment is sacred;
This I vow, for all my life
I'll keep all the good times
With the pain and the strife

So I promise you now,
Unlike fruit that's gone rotten,
Although you may be gone,
You're never forgotten.
