A thought, a simple thought, can take you back. Way back. Back to a time of simpler pleasures, of less responsibility. A time where focus was friends, family and fun. Thoughts have a funny way of triggering memories, memories that have been packed away and put out of sight.
A thought. A thought of what if. What if a situation had turned out differently, how would life be? A thought of why was that decision the best one at the time. Wondering where your mind was and why. A thought of graciousness that situations turned out the way they did.
A thought causes you to remember a choice. The choice to work for the company that you are now the vice president of. Sitting back in your corner office savoring the victory, knowing what was sacrificed to get to that point. Wondering, now, how life could be any better. The amazement that the choice was a good one. A thought on how you were loved, nurtured and supported or a thought on how you weren't.
A thought triggers good feelings. Feelings of a childhood vacation, maybe it was the first time you were on a boat or the first time you went on a long road trip. The feeling of anticipation, the "are we there yet?" and how much longer it will be. The feeling of being with your parents and even your siblings (if you had them). The feelings of exploring, finding your first waterfall or surviving a "scary situation".
A thought can be amazing, interesting, fleeting, daunting, necessary and freeing. A thought can remind you of good days gone by and horrible mistakes that were made. A thought can be a powerful, wonderful, magnificent and overwhelming thing. Thoughts can be all encompassing, but also don't have to be. A thought can be triggered by a sound, the sound of children playing or a train going by; or a smell, the smells of summer - the pool or a barbecue grill; or even certain sights - the sight of the sand, seeing an old car or the sight of children playing bringing back memories that you thought were long gone.
A thought, just thinking, remembering, feeling, dreaming. Sometimes just any thought will start something. A thought, turns into an idea, which helps others, creates a legacy and fuels a dream. A single thought can take you where you want go. Just remember to allow your thought free range and allow yourself to let go. Just a thought.
