Super Foods: A Prescription for Good Health
Did you know that food is the fastest-acting and most powerful medicine you can take to change your life? This revelation is the product of a recent discovery called "nutrigenomics", a new science telling us that if we match the foods we eat to our body's needs, we can prevent and even treat many diseases. [1] The most notable proponent of nutrigenomics is best selling author, Dr. Mark Hyman, who discusses the healing properties of food in his book "The Ultra Mind Solution."
Dr. Hyman says that if we replace highly-processed, nutrient-poor foods with specific natural foods, rich in vital nutrients and disease-fighting agents, we can prevent and treat brain disorders such as autism, depression, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's disease and more. Since these foods have powerful chemical properties, we can protect and heal our interdependent bodies and brains by eating them.
In addition to fighting brain disorders, certain foods also help prevent and treat a wide variety of other diseases and ailments. As a result, scientists have labeled them as being "super foods." These special, nutritionally-dense foods help fine-tune our bodies in many ways by balancing the vital chemicals in everything from our brains to our immune systems. While dozens of foods are labeled as being super, nutrigenomics adds new meaning to the term and tells us the following are among the best.

Researchers have determined that heart disease, wrinkles, cancer, arthritis, and many of the other ailments associated with getting older, are the products of free radicals in our bodies. Free radicals are produced, following a series of chemical changes, when oxygen molecules in our bodies lose electrons, making them unstable. [2] Blueberry's antioxidants stabilize them. And, if we need more reasons to eat blueberries, they also help prevent many chronic diseases and improve short-term memory.
Small Fish: Brain Disease and Depression Prevention
Eating small fish like salmon and sardines (not tuna or swordfish) will help protect against brain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Brain related ailments such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, autism and schizophrenia are also reduced by the Omega-3 fatty acids in small fish. Another powerful benefit
