Most of us desire to be free as a bird and be able to do more or less what we want to do. Therefore, some of us would rather not live by the rules imposed by the people in charge of the college or university where we are learning how to make our own way within this cruel World. Having your own apartment provides those freedoms that you would not enjoy within a college or a university dormitory. Privacy is the number one reason why it is better to live off campus, within your own apartment.
You have a daily routine that you must follow with the least amount of interruptions. There is a time to eat and a time to study. There is also a time for going to classes and going to sleep at night and getting up and ready for the folowing day's activities. Your goal is to learn a skill or a profession that will probably be your life's work after you earn your college degree or degrees and subsequently get hired for that first job in which you can apply what you learned when you were a student and just dreamed about being rich and famous.
In my opinion, if a person has reached the legal age to have a beer or some such alcoholic drink that person should be able to enjoy such drinks within a college or university dorm room. However, doing so is usually a violation of the rule against doing so and that person could be punished for doing so. Then again, you can cook a real meal within your apartment and eat the food that you most like to eat all of the time.
Within a men's dormitory if you desire to entertain a lady within your room you can do so only during the time allowed. Like it or not, grown people should not be restricted from being together, nor should any rules be imposed that require a grown adult to be within said dormitory before midnight.
The matter of privacy is certainly a negative since the bath facilities within a dormitory are used by everyone and you might not be able to take a shower when you so desire to refresh yourself. So too, the germs of other people can make you sick and such places are not as clean and germ free as you might think or was told.
To make matters worse, there seems to be an unending stream of distractions during the times when a person has to complete homework and otherwise prepare for classes the following day. The end result being is that you have too many friends and grades that could be a whole lot better if you did not have so many friends.
