Worry is one of those wasted emotions, because it can neither prevent a situation nor produce a solution and yet so many people indulge themselves where this is concerned. If you are ready to let go of worry, but you're not sure you know how, the following tips can help.
1. Learn all you can. Worry is often linked to fear and fear is frequently linked to a lack of understanding. If there are areas of your personal finances that you don't understand, from taxes to budgeting, make the extra effort to find out what you don't know. A little clarity on issues that may be unclear can sweep your worry right out the door.
2. Control what you can and let go of the rest. There are certain things that are completely within our control. How much we spend each month on everything from electricity to food and entertainment are examples of things we can control. We can even control the amount of money we bring in each month because it is within our power to make more by getting a second job or doing some freelancing on the side. We cannot control plunging home values across the country so there is no sense worrying about it. When you realize that something is out of your hands ask yourself "what can I do to make things better?" and then work from there.
3. Don't obsess about the negative. Dwelling on negative aspects of your finances multiplies them and soon you will be surrounded by only negative things. There is enough evidence of the law of attraction to give it some respect and at least try to speak positive things into your life.
4. Make sure you are insured. When you have the peace of mind of insurance on the things that matter, life, health, your house and car you are a lot less likely to worry that something will go wrong, because you would know that if it did, you would be covered.
5. Pay down your debt. When you are carrying excess debt you may be subconsciously strained by the looming obligations. Try to get rid of loans and you will see the difference it can make to your emotional state. Devise a plan of action for your debt reduction and make strides to slowly but surely reduce your balances and you will feel better about yourself because you will know that the no one has a claim on any of your assets.
6. Have confidence. You may have a secret fear that you may not be able to continue doing what you do, but know that even if your current job is taken away from you, you will be able to do something else.
Remember that letting go of worry is a choice that is yours to make. You can opt for sleepless nights or you can educate where there is ignorance, investigate where there is doubt, insure where there is risk and let go when you have no control.
