When looking for products for taking care of your skin, it's worth bearing in mind that harsh chemical cleansers can strip the natural oils from the skin, which then stimulates it into producing excess oil in some areas, and leaves it too dry in others. It seems to be a never ending cycle! If you have t-zone skin you may have only have oily areas on the nose, forehead and chin, with the rest being relatively dry and sensitive. This can make it difficult to find a cleanser that is kind to all areas of the face.
An excellent solution to these problems is Angels on Bare Skin, a facial cleanser produced by Lush. It is the most popular daily skincare cleanser sold by Lush. Angels on Bare Skin is made of fresh, organic products, including a kaolin clay base to absorb excess oil, and ground almonds for gentle exfoliation. It's based on a medieval recipe using rose and lavender essential oils that would have been excruciatingly expensive in those days. The rose has a toning effect and the lavender has a soothing effect.
Angels on Bare Skin comes in a plastic pot that is recyclable at the store. It looks like a greenish, slightly gritty paste, with bits of lavender in and smells pleasantly of lavender and kaolin. As it contains fresh ingredients, this will have a shelf life of three months. With daily use one pot can last four to six weeks.
To use it scoop out a small amount onto the palm of your hand and mix it to a paste with a little water, then massage onto damp skin, and finally rinse thoroughly. It may seem strange to use, as unlike many skin cleansers it doesn't have a foaming effect. However, it does leave the skin surprisingly clean, without leaving it red, overly scrubbed and stripped of oils.
Lush promotes this as a Vegan product, suitable for any skin type, with the majority of user reviews indicating that it is gentle, improves skin texture, leaves a clean feel and balances skin. As with all Lush products it is made by hand. Ingredients are all bought from companies that do not commission tests on animals, and all Lush products are tested on humans.
The Ingredients: Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis), Glycerine, Kaolin, Water (Aqua), Lavender Oil (Lavandula hybrida), Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia), Lavender Flowers (Lavendula hybrida), *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume.
