Ahhh, Pizza. The perfect food after a busy day. In Sacramento, there are many perfect places that serve perfect busy day food. But my personal recommendations include the following pizza places.
Wenelli's Pizza: This is a friendly and old place. It's the classic joint for the post-little league playoff or a brief respite from the chaos of Arden Way. The pizzas and toppings are classic, not fancy or so overdone that you can't choose from a huge list of "artistic" ingredients. The sausage and pepperoni is the best I've ever tasted and the cheese is a fundamental mozzarella that stretches as it should. The sauces are solid, with a perfect balance of acid and sweet. Wenelli's is at 4215 Arden Way, just across from the Bel Aire market shopping center.
Giovannis Pizzeria: If you're looking for classic New York style pizza, and find yourself in the North Natomas area, Giovanni's will satisfy your needs. This thin crust pizza comes loaded with toppings of your choice, and the lunch special is unbeatable for those on a budget.
Original Petes: For the best pizza crust around, it's Original Pete's. If you're serious about Pizza, you will make it through the famously dreadful maze of Downtown Sacramento to 2001 'J' Street and prepare to tuck in!
Chicago Fire: This 2008 "Best In Sacramento" selection can be found in Old Folsom and in midtown Sacramento. For Chicago style pizza, with a wafer thin crust, Chicago Fire is worth a try.
Zelda's Gourmet Pizza: Located at 1415 21st Street, Zelda's is the place to go for pan pizza that is loaded with the best toppings and cheese.
Steve's Pizza: This pizza place has been a staple of the Sacramento region, from Woodland to Elk Grove. Steve's place will set you up with a reliable pizza every time.
Round Table Pizza: One year, Round Table won as the best pizza place in the Sacramento area!
Paesono's Pizza: Located at 1806 Capitol Avenue, Paesono's is a favorite place for those who insist on authentic Italian style pizza. The crust is cracker thin and the toppings may seem to be a little spare. And that's how Italians make their pizzas. The place is boisterous and full of people from all walks of Sacramento life.
Papa Murphy's: Papa Murphy's is all over Sacramento, and stays busy. Folks may sneer at the "take and bake" concept, but no one told Papa Murphy or the thousands of customers who find that baking their own fully loaded pizzas to be the best solution to a pizza crisis.
