Why luck has almost nothing to do with career success

You might think that some people are born lucky, and that they will have all the success simply because of luck. I do believe that some things happen that we don't understand, but when it comes to your career there really is no such thing as luck. I believe that we all get what we deserve out of our careers, and that we get out of it what we put into it. It might seem like luck, but you never simply get lucky when it comes to your career.

I firmly believe that success is a combination of preparation and hard work. There are no cases where people simply just get something handed to them out of the blue. it might seem like that sometimes, but it never happens like that. There are always things that we don't see, and events that happen to put people in the right place at the right time.

I recall a time where I had lost a management position at my job due to a disagreement with my boss. About a year and a half later I regained my position. Most people thought it was a random, and that I was getting the job out of the blue. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the fact was that I had done what I had to do to put myself in a position to win back my job.

What had happened was that I had done a really good job in my new assignment, and so my boss put in some good words for me. I was interviewing for a posting within the company that looked like something I could get. It was a lower job, but it was full-time, so I had to take the chance. During the interview, the assistant store manager realized my potential and offered me a chance to be a manager again if I wanted to.

It wasn't random chance that I had gotten my job back. I had gotten it back because I had spent over a year working hard to prove that I belonged as a manger. I put in the time, put in the work, and restored the relationships that I had lost in the past. When I saw my chance I just took the opportunity that I was given.

The point is that you never ever get where you want to be by taking the easy way. Giving up is not an option, and nothing is ever just handed to you. It all comes down to the fact that you need to be at the right place at the right time, and have done enough to be considered for the opportunity when it comes your way.
