Knotted Wire
We came across the knotted wire,
a bunch of cowhands out for hire.
Gone were the days of open range;
fence-lines cluttered the horizon,
on trails once traveled by bison.
It all appeared terribly strange.
A stray calf, caught in the tangled
barbs, lay bleeding, torn, and mangled.
A cowboy's ways began to change.
