Time labours on, as do I.
Senseless fool, I wonder why
To dark seduction, I made reply,
By forfeit of my right to die!
Alone, the years pass me by.
I cannot hope, I'm mad to try.
I pose as mortal and live a lie.
My only friend, a deep dark sky.
Vast and empty, without reply,
Silent moon watches as I cry
To mourn a truth I can't belie:
This leaden soul will never fly!
My spirit craves that final high
As eternity draws closer nigh,
My perspective grows more wry
From inner knots I cannot untie.
Piteous feelings cannot pry
The hope for which I vainly ply!
Please come, I beg with a sigh,
And close my eyes again to try
Chasing dreams, now stale and dry,
With nothing new to imply
In their ever-shortening supply.
Raving absurdities multiply
With no end saved for such as I.
