CREATING YOUR HOME SCHOOL CLASSROOM
It can be very easy and very fun. If you have a spare room in your home that you will be using for your classroom or even just a space in a room of your house you can make a great classroom space. It doesn't take expensive things to create your classroom. A lot of things you can find at yard sales, second hand stores of arts and craft stores. Maybe even find some things on sale at different stores.
Start off with your walls. If your walls are plain white you might want to repaint them a warm color that will bring life to the room and brighten it up. A small blackboard or dry erase board added to your classroom's wall will be a great addition. These are good to use for writing out words for your young students when you're teaching spelling, reading, writing and many other things. They are also good just to have the date written on so your child can just look up at the board instead of always having to ask when they don't remember. You can write out your lesson plan for the day on it or a schedule. Add a bulletin board trim around it to dress it up and make it look fun and not just plain. You could also add a bulletin board to your classroom to let your children show their school work on or let them decorate a bulletin board and add what they want to it.
Next thing is Storage. You will want to have plenty of it. Rubbermaid storage bins are a great investment for this. You can get the dresser style. One of the smaller ones is great for keeping your school supplies in. Put name tags on each drawer so you and your student(s) know where each supply item goes. Bins you can keep things like blocks and such in. Your hands on lesson items. You could also make it into cubby spaces for your children to keep their own school items in such as their books and notebooks. Shelves are also another great way to make space for storing small items. You can place things your children make on them or small baskets for placing small class items in.
Next is furniture. If you can find a desk at a reasonable price then snatch it up. Sometimes you can go to the schools and ask if they may have some old desk they are going to be tossing out. Sometimes you can find one at places like Salvation Army or Goodwill. If you find an old one you can always refurbish it with some paint, cleaner and a little elbow grease. A neat idea for the top of a desk or small table is to take some blackboard paint and paint the top of the desk/table. When you do this be sure
