Causes for low sperm count

Male infertility is a situation in which a male fails to contribute in conception. For any man this fact that he is infertile is a kind of shock as most of the man relates infertility with their physical strength and sexual abilities. However, infertility is only a medical problem, but it is not easy to accept for the most of the man who suffers from the infertility.

There are several factors behind the male infertility; low sperm count is one of them. Low sperm count is a very common cause behind the male infertility. Low sperm count is a situation in which there are not enough sperms in the semen. However, for conception only single sperm is required, but in normal condition sometimes a normal and healthy couple take time of two months to two years for conception. Thus, low sperm count affects the fertility of males. There are several causes behind the low sperm count, which are given below:

# Age: Sperm count affects by the increasing age. Many studies have established this fact that as the age increases the sperm count decreases. However, in some case problem of low sperm count can occur at younger age as well.

# LifeStyle and food habits: Lifestyle also affects the sperm count. Modern lifestyle is full of stress and pressure. Stress and tension plays important role in reducing the sperm count. Sometimes food habits also affect the sperm count. Malnutrition also reduces sperm count. Healthy and nutritional food is very necessary for a healthy sperm count. Lifestyle and bad food habits are the main cause behind the low sperm count in younger people.

# Health problems: Sometimes health related issues such as, obesity, anemia, typhoid, etc, also affects the sperm count.

# Smoking and alcohol intake: Smoking and alcohol not only affects the quality of sperms, but also affects the quantity of the sperms.

# Genetic disorders: Genetic disorders also cause low sperm count. Because of genetic disorders male reproductive organs fails to produce enough sperms in the semen.

# Heating of testicles and tight clothes: When testicles of a man remains in heated environment for a very long period of time or comes in contact of heat more often, then it affects his sperm count. The men who use sauna or hot water bath more often may suffer from low sperm count problem. Tight clothes like tight undergarments put pressure on testicles which affects the sperm count.

There are several other factors which affect the sperm count, such as, drug abuse, sexual habits and exercise, etc. Drugs cause chemical imbalance in the body, which affects the sperm count. Sometimes sex addiction and excess exercise also reduces the sperm count.
